Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. Hero or Traitor?

Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi was, is and will be one of the brightest heroes of national history.

For many, he is an outstanding Ukrainian politician, a talented commander, very close to the age-old aspirations of the Ukrainian people. But there was another Bohdan Khmelnytsky - a strict, sometimes despotic ruler who did not spare the blood of his countrymen to preserve and establish the version of an independent Ukrainian state that he considered the best, but it contradicted the views of Ukrainians on what life should be like in the new , the Cossack state.

On May 15-16, 1648, the Cossack army of Bohdan Khmelnytsky inflicted a crushing defeat on the Polish army near Zhovty Vody, which marked the beginning of the Liberation War of 1648-1654.

The Battle of Yellow Waters is the first major victorious battle of the Cossack army led by Bohdan Khmelnytskyi against Polish troops at the beginning of the National Liberation War, which was later called Khmelnytskyi.
